Amazon River Exploration (4.5 hours)
Venturing into the Amazon tributaries is an experience not to be missed. It will provide a close-up look of what the ecology of the Amazon is all about.
Knowledgeable guides will provide information about trees, plants and birds you may encounter during this trip into nature.
From the pier, you'll board a fully-equipped riverboat and cruise down the Rio Negro River. Here you'll have the pleasure of observing the, "Ribeirinhos," river people carrying out their day-to-day activities. As your journey down the river progresses, you'll witness the “Meeting of the Waters”. This natural phenomenon consists of the dark waters of the Rio Negro and the muddy yellow waters of the Solimões flowing side by side for several miles without merging. Later, the two rivers form the Amazon.
Your approx 2 hours-long cruise will conclude at the Lake Janauary floating pier and market. Avid shoppers will delight in the local stalls that display Indian tribal costumes and various handicrafts. From here you'll board motorized canoes and journey upstream into the "igarapes," small creeks which lead into the heart of the Amazon jungle. Keep an eye out for the Victoria Regia giant water lilies, brightly-hued butterflies and a variety of colorful bird species. Please note your creek visit will be subject to water levels permitting.
Soon after leaving your canoe, you'll reboard the riverboat for your return cruise to Manaus.
