Manaus

Nearly 1,400 miles from the mouth of the  Amazon River lies the  jungle  capital of Manaus. This rubber-boom town, whose heyday was at the turn of the century, now boasts a population of over one million in inhabitants. As the major inland port, it is the cultural and economic hub of the Brazil's State of Amazonas.

Despite the passage of time, opulent vestiges of its former grandeur remain. The magnificent Opera House was built during the peak of the city's prosperity, and its breathtaking beauty continues to thrill visitors.

Don't miss the graceful Customs House, built in the style of Imperial India; it is flanked by a seemingly endless line of grand estates and mansions.
